Ashes to Ashes?

Dear Flist,

Ashes to Ashes has started playing over here in the US. I've just watched 3/4 of the first ep and I have to ask: Does this get any better? Is it worth it? I really don't care for the lead character and for some reason this is just grating on my...sensibilities.

...but I'll have to go with a resounding no; DI Alex Drake is about as annoying as you can get...and dresses like a ho. Episode 2 has her flouncing around the station, neckline dangling from one shoulder...revealing a black bra-strap. Sigh. Sorry, but someone of her stature would probably have gone braless in 1981...I know that I did, before time and gravity caught up with me!

And I had such high hopes for this: I love Philip Glenister's Gene Hunt. I'll continue to "watch" the series, but I'll be Tivo-ing through most of the scenes that he is not in.
