boring ear stuff

I saw the doctor yesterday. He wasn't happy it was still infected so he gave me a different antibiotic. The hole had healed though. I hear crackles and some sound though it so Yay!

I asked him what about flying in a week's time. He looked at me like I was an idiot and told me it would be very painful and cause the ear to rupture again. Bummer. I was pretty resigned to having to cancel my trip to MWC, but I thought what the hell, and drove up Mt. Baldy anyway. I made it up the ski lift and that was 6200ft without any trouble. I had sensations, but nothing painful or involving blood and brains exploding onto the window. So, I'm thinking it should *probably* be okay if I fly. I'm going to drive up there a few more times before next Wednesday just to reconfirm that flying won't be a monumentally stupid decision.

would chewing gum help? Um sorry if that's a really stupid question... I don't know much about eardrums...

Chewing gum will help. It helps to open up the little tubes that go from your inner ear to the inside of your mouth and allow the pressure changes to occur that will equalize to what the outer part of the ear is experiencing. I will take gum, and decongestants...and some ear plugs called ear planes that are supposed to help.
