Homelife update
Nov. 29th, 2004 03:51 amGarage guy is still here. He says that he has a place to move to but the homeowner wants to paint and put electrical plugs the basement that he'll be renting to J first. Fingers crossed...(but I keep thinking, "basement? In Southern California?") My friends at work all laugh at me and predict he ain't going anywhere, anytime soon.
Brindle is feeling better; the steroid is doing the trick I hope. Reg closing in on his goal of consuming all of the turkey leftovers. The coon family hasn't been back (that I know of) since day 2 of garage guy's stay here.
Boston Legal was fun tonight (when isn't it?) I actually held my breath when Lori was challenging Brad to reveal his true feelings for Alan Shore. For a moment, I thought for sure that he was going to say he wanted to sleep with him, too. LOL! Oh well, it was a nice moment even if it was only in my own head! I'm getting more than a little tired of Lori's deerintheheadlight stare, but I guess TV finds that attractive in blonde actresses.
Enterprise. I liked the arc that Brent Spinner was in. The current Vulcan one is dragging (but I suppose act 2 is always the least engaging.) Trip is not near Archer, so that's a major plot flaw as far as I'm concerned.
I hear Santa has arranged for the Forever Knight DVDs to appear on Xmas day. :::big silly grin:::
The Mineral and Gem show is in Santa Monica this coming weekend. Beads will also be there. I'm not all that wild about that stuff, but it means I can wrangle a fish and chips dinner at the Ye Olde King's Head Pub, something I've been craving since I saw fish and chips mentioned on Wire in the Blood. The King's Head as the best fish and chips this side of the Atlantic, so this is important, you know. Rhubarb crumble with Bird's custard.... *g*
I'm torn about seeing Alexander. I've always been fascinated by him, but this new film...oy. Of course, I've never liked Oliver Stone's direction, but there you go. Kohl on Hephastion doesn't endear me to the production much either. Such a waste of a great story. Very sad.

Date: 2004-11-29 05:21 pm (UTC)Forever Knight is a series I always wished I'd watched more of. Those eps towards the end were about as slashy as it gets, IMO.
What day do you plan to go to the King's Head? If you want some company, I work Saturday but I could get there by 3 p.m., and I'm off Sunday. OTOH, if you're otherwise occupied, that's fine, no pressure ;-)
Everything I've read about Alexander is a big Thumbs Down.

Date: 2004-11-29 10:41 pm (UTC)FK. Very slashy. LaCroix was amazing. I'm looking forward to this, and season two will be out in Jan. I'm salivating waiting for Season 3, though.
We're going to the bead/gem/mineral show on Friday to avoid crowds. Okay, less of a crowd. *g* Anyway, perhaps another day? It'd be fun to get together and chat some. After the holidays, though. Cool.
I *so* wanted to see a film about him, too. One of the cable channels ran a 3 hour documentary a week or two ago that was fabulous. This movie seems melodramatic and campy by comparison.
Did I mention sad?

Date: 2004-11-30 01:57 am (UTC)I think I only saw maybe the last third of second season FK and part of third season, but I liked what I saw, esp. LaCroix.
Since I work in SM and live reasonably close by, I'm always up for a trip to the King's Head and/or the Promenade, any time.
I saw part of the Alexander documentary on the History Channel. Whoo, after what

Date: 2004-11-30 04:49 am (UTC)I'm so glad Reg is busy on his goal of eating up the holiday leftovers. My cat Roshi went NUTS for turkey this year - began wailing like a mad thing at the first hint of turkey and fell on the meat like he'd been starved for days. He's generally not all that interested in food, so this was really surprising behavior.
I haven't watched Enterprise at all this year, but the first Vulcan episode was recced by another K/S fan during a discussion about how Enterprise has f***ed up TOS chronology and how this episode comes close to bridging the gap. So I watched the first episode - not bad. Maybe I should start watching this series again.
Cool re the Forever Knight DVDs! I loved that series - have them all on video, including some from Canadian airings, which I understand have more footage. Will that be the case on the DVDs?
I love the King's Head, and the rhubarb crumble is to die for...
If you see "Alexander", I'll be interested in reading what you think about it. I have *no* intention of seeing it unless someone I trust recs it. I did love the LA Times review - something like Alexander and Hephaistion acting like Eagle Scouts comparing merit badges rather than long-time lovers.

Date: 2004-11-30 08:49 am (UTC)I was wondering if that's what they were doing. The Vulcans have been incredibly emotional, so if these events lead them to renew their dedication to logic, then it would be a repair. I think the emotional Vulcans are what is spoiling my enjoyment of this arc; I keep thinking how Spock are Sarek would say these lines, then I just stare at the screen in disgust. But still I watch. *g*
I have no idea about the content of the FK dvds. I'm hoping they will be complete as they can be. Fingers crossed.
Germaine saw Alexander. She said the costumes were fabulous, but there was lots of endless bloody battles (sometimes she tends not to look at the screen during those.) She agreed with Roger Ebert that Alexander and Hephaistion hugged a lot. I asked her if I really needed to see this or wait for the DVD, and she hemmed and hawed. I'll probably see it unless it disappears really fast, which is quite possible, actually.
