He's gone!

As of 8pm tonight, Garage Guy is now Basement Guy and is someone else's problem. He, of course, disappeared to visit a friend just as we were getting ready to open up my car so he could start packing and didn't come back for nearly 2 hours and it was dusk. We were moving everything out of the garage at this point (to lock him out if he didn't show up soon) so he just pitched in to help--he didn't have any other choice really. He did develop a bad back all of a sudden, and once at the new place, was suddenly horrified by the dust (carpet will be laid in a few days) and the lingering new paint fumes. It's been 7 days since the paint was put on, and if he was really worried about the dust, I would have thought he would have wanted to damp mop earlier in the day perhaps?? He was fretting that the dust would hurt his dog. I looked and sniffed and honestly told him I would have no qualms about sleeping there. And then we left.

Since it's cold and dark now, I'll put the locks on tomorrow. I am very, *very* relieved that this is, hopefully, all behind us now. I think I've been cured from personally doing someone a good turn.

Very relieved for you. People like this give those who are genuinely homeless as bad name. Here's wishing you and your mom a very relaxed Christmas. (hugs)

Thank you.

One hears sad tales from people one knows where they've had just a bad patch of luck and just need a helping hand and a bit of a respite to get back up on their feet. There's the preconception that someone will *want* to be independant again. This guy is making a living by calling enablers to his aid then sucking them dry. I still don't know if it is a 100% con job, or whether he is just a dislexic man with attention deficit disorder and an addictive nature who's stuck at the maturity level of a 15 year old. If anyone needs help, he does, but if he's not going to change, then there's no point in trying to get him in a better situation. It's so frustrating.

I hope your headache is better now. If not, have some holiday cheer and double dose of archeologist and the Karl character of your choice.
