Natterings
Feb. 17th, 2005 05:28 pmCutiepie, the momma raccoon came by last night. She sat her fanny down and dined on kibble for quite awhile. I bet she's incubating some young ones. She seemed relaxed and was in good condition.
Lost was good last night. All you Sawyer fans will be sqeeing away. *g*
No Garage Guy update to be given. It's been about 11 days since he called and there's been no hangup calls during this time either.

Find out what Bush's Social Security plan will mean for you. I apparently will get a 9% cut per year. Oh joy.
Have I mentioned lately how much fun it's been watching Alias Smith and Jones on Encore Western? They are so very, very pretty (the episodes and/or the actors, take your pick.) The writing was good, too. Mom, who will usually guess what will happen by at least half way through, was flumoxed by Miracle at Santa Marta and 21 Days to Tenstrike. I also have to mention that I've been surprised by the differences in characterizations from what I remembered, to what I'm seeing today. I remembered Heyes and Curry more serious. Curry has some slightly silly moments as the show goes on, and Heyes was actually happy and fun-loving, especially when he was alone with the Kid. I feel like there is a noticible change between Season 1 and 2, and well, the Roger Davis eps are a different show altogether for me. A Roger Davis ep showed today and Mom got up and left, saying she didn't want to see any of those. BTW, she's refused to see any of Meridian, the SG ep where Daniel dies, either. I turned off the AS&J ep soon afterwards; I just wanted to see if my reaction to them had changed in 34 years. It hadn't.
The Winternationals of Drag Racing were last weekend. Even though we live about 3 or 4 miles from the race track, for 4 days we hear what I like to think off as really big dragon farts (no smell, luckily.) There were a couple of advertising blimps (airships) floating about. Have I ever mentioned that Big Reg is afraid of blimps? Most cats never seem to notice aircraft, and Reg doesn't mind helicopters or jets, but should he see a blimp, he races inside somewhat frantic. I wonder what that's all about....

Date: 2005-02-19 08:30 am (UTC)I've decided not to finish taping the series. I know I'll never watch those other episodes. I bet they will repeat them, though and you should be able to catch what you missed.
We'll have to disagree about Jonas. I felt the character was never given the chance to be unique and therefore the comparisons to Daniel were unavoidable. I liked the first 3 seasons best. The rest have had their moments. I just think of it as a slightly different show now and I watch for those moments when they get it right.
The writers say they are really going to do something different for Season 9; I guess we'll see if they got something better up their sleeve.
Atlantis is getting better, but I'm interested in the lesser characters. It takes a show a while to find itself so it will be interesting to see what happens.
Which characters do you think work the best?

Date: 2005-02-19 10:47 am (UTC)Well said, very well said. I really resented the way the show was manipulated towards the end after Pete had died to make them cousins. Then, changing the narration at the top of the show. It just reeked. I cannot imagine anyone getting into the show based on just Roger episodes. I know people that were already fans of the show sticking around, but no one would start with those episodes and get hooked.
I bet they will repeat them, though and you should be able to catch what you missed.
I hope so. The website shows airing through April. I know there are not enough Roger episodes to fill that much time. I imagine we might get another run through.

I do agree about Jonas. He was never developed. I feel there was a lot of potential there. I also agree about the first three seasons being the best. But, imagine if the same attention was paid during these seasons as are now. No characters in the show are being developed at this point. Even the main characters are choppy at best. We would never have a feel for the main characters from just what they show us now. It is only because we love what we know about these characters from the earlier seasons that keeps us watching.

My understanding is that Jack will be gone. I know that will cause a lot of fans to abandon the show. I personally feel like Jack has been gone for several years now, so I don't mind. I hope they do something. The show needs something different than what they are putting out now.

I adore Rodney McKay. He is so flawed. He is so smart and doesn't mind reminding everyone constantly. He is so self involved. He is not the typical buff guy. He gets winded running. He was bitching in the last episode about walking all the way to the village when they could have taken the jumper. He just makes the show for me. I like him with John Sheppard. I think they have genuine chemistry. John to me is like a young Jack before his son died. He has a lot of potential. Most of the lesser characters don't interest me. When the midseason cliffhanger had Elizabeth about to die; I was fine with that. The doctor irritates me. And I just don't feel anything for Ford or Teyla. I guess I watch the show pretty much for McKay and Sheppard.
