SG: Threads. Canny Jack
Mar. 14th, 2005 01:13 pmHere's a theory about Kerry and Jack's 'breakup:'
A friend had a great theory about that scene where Kerry and Jack split up. Kerry comes into his office, states how much she likes her job there and confirms that their breaking up won't impact her job. Almost as an after thought on her way out, she says she knows what he should do and that is retire. I did think that Jack looked more alert and considering as he waited for her advice. The friend thought it was very pertinent that Kerry brought up that there had been a civilian leader of the SGC before. She felt that Kerry was wanting Jack's job and Jack was very much aware of it. That Kerry had slept with Jack to get inside info and maybe an angle to work to get her promotion. That maybe Jack could see that the hint of an improper relationship with a subordinate would be used against him by Kerry to get him to leave the SGC. Jack didn't look all that emotionally devasted, and actually, not that surprised by her actions and words. One wonders if maybe he was on to her shenanigans long before the 'breakup.'
I really like this theory. I like a strong, canny Jack and that passiveness just seems wrong, wrong, wrong. Rather than think RDA is displaying a lack of acting skills, I wonder if he is actually being more subtle than some folks give him credit for. Jack's reaction after Kerry leaves does show a variety of emotions. He looks rather smothered at one point and gives a quick upward glance. My theory would be that he feels very pressured from Kerry, from Carter, from the mess beyond the 'gate to the political pressures above him on the chain of command. I think his little glance upwards is a small glimpse into his anxiety/despair that Daniel is missing and how he wishes he was back. Maybe he wouldn't feel so smothered if he had his best friend and his own private 2IC by his side.
