This was my first time at Comic Con if you don't count two years ago when I was down there just for the day. We drove down late Thursday and checked in to our old Victorian hotel. The rooms were quite pretty and nice, and the hotel restaurant was quick, reasonably priced and served good tasting food by a very nice waiter. What more could you want? Besides a valet parking spot, that is?
Anyway, we shopped all day Friday, but only covered about 2/3s of the booths. We picked a LotR booth to rendevous at; it had a life sized Uruk-hai and a ring wraith on a rearing horse, not to mention a great statue of Gollum sitting on a rock with a fish in his hand. Saturday, I spent the day in pursuit a Stargate panel and autographs. I got to spend a few minutes chatting with the SG director Martin Wood.
I did see the Smallville panel, but sadly, it was almost entirely Lexless. They had the actors that played Chloe and Pete there. One of the clips they showed was that bit where Lana strips before she dives into the pool, and sitting in a room that was a majority of teenage boys and young men, it became abundantly clear why Lana, who I consider a simpering waste, was the actual 'star' of the show. From that experience, I despair that the producers will ever value the Lex storyline as much as the hot babe.
Well, at least I get to have RDA and Michael Shanks on the current TV guide. :)
Speaking of Smallville, they had an ad on tonights ep touting their move to a new night at an hour earlier. The point was that whatever you used to do at 8 on Wednesdays, you needed to stop and watch SV instead. They listed all the tasks/chores/diversions that people might be doing, and one of them was "create an Orlando Bloom fansite." Thank god Tivo was there so I could hit the rewind with at 'what was THAT?!' Orlando is very hot right now, I think.
Anyway, I was so intimidated by the lines, I did not see any of the previews of Harry Potter or LotR. I didn't see Halle Berry or Angelina Jolie. I did see part of the masquarade unfortunately. The funniest thing was all the characters of LotR doing some sort of dancing presentation, complete with chorus line in sync high steps. It's title was a One Ring Circus.
Oh, and the most memorable quote for the weekend was, "Hey Elvis! Down in front!"
More later if I can think of it.
