Varmit Report

As is usual for the beginning of winter, the varmits come around less and less. Nevertheless, tonight was a busy night. We had three opossums, a couple of skunks, two stray cats, a pair of peanut-loving raccoons and Cutiepie. And we had a lovely time enjoying the parade...until we saw a coyote looking in the window at us! I have no idea how it got into to the yard and obviously we'll have to check out the fences tomorrow. So frustrating.

As for the kitties, Reg is fine. His kidney issues don't seem to be bothering him. I have a hard time not rubbing his shaved tummy though. Scooter is his usual self. Brindle spent nearly three weeks living in the bathtub. Then he spent about five days thinking he needed to sleep at the base of the toilet. Needless to say, he didn't ever feel like moving so it made visiting the loo a bit of a balancing act. Now, for about the past four days, he's been nesting on my dresser. On occasion, he runs outside, freezes for a few seconds then runs back inside. He is the oddest cat we've ever lived with.

As for us, we're okay. Mom's blood sugar levels have been up since we came back from our trip. Tonight, she hit 310 and got on her treadmill finally. It went down to 230 so yay! Me? I got sick on Wednesday night. Too many sick adults breathing in my face as I listened to their breath sounds and I caught their crud. It's moved out of my lungs for the moment and now I'm sneezing and doing the whole sinus thing. This is in reverse of how things usually progress, I believe. Oh well. Yuck!

Sorry you're sick! At least you have it this week, and hopefully will feel much better Xmas week.

Glad that Reg is better. Brindle - lol! Do you know why he's developed a sudden affinity for your loo?

Speaking of not moving...I have a silent convection heater in the bedroom, and when it's turned on, Wheelz and Snicky "drape" either side of it (on the floor). They have thanked me profusely for bringing home this neat thing for them.

I came home from work yesterday to find that Wheelz had barfed on my bed. I love my children.....

Brindle is a cat of extremes, black and white. The tub was IT until it became all wrong, then he moved three feet away to the base of the toilet. I had thought that he liked the tub because it was cold in there, therefore pressing his back against the porceline was also soothing? That's as good as I can guess. Nesting in my pile of socks and underware (clean, it just hadn't been put away yet) should be warm I would think. His skin has cleared up, so since he is still eating a variety of canned food, I'm leaning towards corn as the culprit to his allergies. Being inside has made him corn free.

Barfed on your bed, eh? I hate that, especially if I'm just about to go to bed...or currently in bed. Mom flings them off the bed in mid puke, but I can't do that; the puke goes everywhere. *g* I want to get a bed under a small table lamp for Scooter before we go on our next trip. We did that for an old cat we used to have and she loved it; she'd do 'heat treatments' on her hips and whatever else was sore. I'm sure he'd love it if we got a convection heater, but that won't be happening.

I'm a little better this morning. I slept 12 hours and then took a bath. Now I'm having some green tea. I can almost remember what it feels like to be human again. *g* I still need to trudge out and look at the fence. Too bad I don't feel up to *doing* anything about it.

Yeh, when Wheelz hangs out in the tub in the hot weather, it's because it's cool(er) in there. When I had Brat Cat, he used to sleep in the sink for the same reason.

Wheelz had already left his present for me at some point during the day. I too tend to fling "mid puke", but this time it was after the fact :-(

I don't know about the pet stores, but the mail order and online pet catalogs sell special "animal heating pads" that only have low settings and safety features, so that you can leave them on for elderly and arthritic pets.

why did the tub become all wrong? Why did the chicken cross the road? Did the loo become appealing because it's cool in there? Although at the moment I would think it was too cold...this is where the warm knickers come in to play methinks.
Sorry you're feeling poorly. I'm freezing here at work, and bored out of my gourd, for a change. I have written 3 Xmas letters though. Even though they'll be late I'm feeling self rightous about it!
I bought a heating pad last year for my lot. It has a timer, and doesn't get too hot. I should get that out again, now that you've reminded me.I'd like a heater too, but I don't want a fan on it, just a glowing warm radiant one would be nice.
I could do some education crap on CHEX, but na! I'll go back to Bespelled instead. By the way, Smeagol and Shrek don't count as real words.

Brindle has an explosion of fur for the winter, and he has the high metabolism of the very young. He is ALWAYS hot.

Heating pad with a timer? Clever! Is is a special pet heating pad? What kind? We had one for Vester and she swore it tried to cook her, and it was too hot. I've been cautious ever since.

Huh. I bet it doesn't recognise Methos as a word either. You need a fannish version.

A varmint report! The coyote sounds more than a little alarming, though. Was he right beside the window? Scary!

I'm glad that Reggie is doing better, and that everyone else seems to be holding their own. (including Mom!) :)

I hope you feel better soon! Working with the public in any capacity can be horribly contagious, but working with the ill public must be even more so. I think I've just caught something...this week I forgot to sanitize the phone after we let kids use it. oops.

Kids! Talk about your vectors! They're as bad as it gets. But, yeah, dealing with sick people is a risk. Amazingly, our sick policy is incredibly strict. I'm sorry but to me, I just had a job related illness. I think hospitals are getting off easy saying it's my problem I got this, but that's how it goes. And actually, when you are doing your thing with all those small, mobile infectious units, any colds you pick up are job related, too.

We have a big picture window that looks out into the back yard. There's about 3 feet of earth before it rises as a berm. The coyote was about ten feet away at eye level. This picture here is taken from standing in the living room and where Brindle is lying is where the coyote was standing. I'm so grateful Brindle wants to be inside right now.
