Well, my armful of squeezy purring luv has been left at the vets. Reg has been having tooth problems for a week now (bad breath, dropping food, restlessness from discomfort.) For the last day, he hasn't been able to eat, making jerky chomping motions with sharp head twitches, and has been beside himself with hunger. We were very lucky that the vet could squeeze him in today, and once she looked at his mouth, said he had to stay and have dental surgery. It's a bit more expensive than it normally would have been as he needs some IV fluid to counter his dehydration. Bad mommies, no biscuit.

It all worked out, time wise. When I first called yesterday, they said they were book solid until Saturday. I know that they only do dental surgery on Tues/Wed/Thur so I was thinking we were going to have to beg him to eat/drink for 5 days and get pain meds into him. While I was debating finding a new vet, Mom called again, pulled the "Hi! I'm Mrs. G and Reggie needs to come in for an appt." Suddenly, they had an 11:45 appt open. I forget to use the VIP card. While we were waiting, three different vet techs came in and said, "Reggie!" and threw their arms around him. Even the new vet was all enamored with him. This cat conquers all who meet him with a shy glance and the loudest purr. The new vet wanted to listen to his heart, but Reg never stops purring for anyone. She had a new trick though. She turned on the water faucet. When he still kept purring, she picked him up and brought him face to face with the running water. THAT stopped the purring! Kinda mean, but it worked!

Anyway, we hope to get him back tonight. Good thing we didn't go crazy buying Xmas stuff because the $$$ is needed now for our Cadillac kitty.

Poor Reg! Wheelz sends him a furry pat on the back and a 'hang in there'!' Hope you can retrieve him tonight as planned and spoil him rotten.

I'm sure Reg appreciates all sympathy that's offered to him. The vet called and said while he is fine, she wants to keep him overnight and we can collect him tomorrow at 10am. They had to dig out one fracture tooth and took one fang. She would rather have taken a second fang but there was something about increased risk of a fractured jaw. Huh. Bone loss, I guess? Poor, poor kitty! Thanks for the kind thoughts. Give Wheelz a hug for me.

Awww, poor sweetie! Many hugs and squeezes, and a warm lap or blankie to spend the weekend on, safe from the rain and the cold - that's what he needs.

Wheelz will take all the hugs he can get - thank you! I woke up to find him on my head this morning....that is, after he and his sister kept me awake until midnight running around all over the bed and under it. Sigh....

Poor kitty!

I wouldn't rush bringing him home if you can help it -- though I know it's hard having them away. We always leave our cats at the vet for at least 24 hours after their surgery (longer if possible, taking office hours into consideration) to be sure they're completely recovered from the anesthesia. They can't see well, plus they get the wobblies and we've had some near disasters with a loopy cat nearly getting itself badly hurt.

You are right, of course. I have had them home when four legs is obviously way too many to figure out. Usually from this place, they come back in good shape, and since they kept him this time, I imagine they are strict about not letting them home unless their okay.
