1) Hex. Can I say I'm glad we're going straight into the 2nd series. Cassie gets on my nerves, but I adore Thelma. Thelma is the only reason I'm still watching. Oh, I tried to watch Whistler, but I couldn't take it. Maybe if I were a skier it would be more watchable? Is anyone finding it interesting?

2) I am looking forward to next week's SG1 and SGA. I know SG1 isn't the same show I feel for, but I like Daniel and Teal'c and Vala. I hope Mitchell's character settles down and reverts more to what he was in the first half of S9. I'm not spoiler free but I haven't paid much attention to them. I know what the writer's are capable of and have long ago adjusted my expectations. I think that's why I can take SGA as just entertainment because it's the same writers/producers for the most part and I'm better prepared to ignore the lost opportunities and such. I am hoping for a nice girly scream from Rodney when we see him in the Hive ship.

3)Tivo just dled it's content thingy and when they were going over TV Guide's hot picks, they listed SG1's premier for Friday (obviously a week early.) Cool.

4)They also had some autism PSAs. It said that 13 years ago, autism was diagnosised in 1:10,000. Now? It's 1:166. My god that's frightning!

5)I'm catching up on the Tivo backlog and am watching Space Race-The Untold Story from the NGC. Absolutely fascinating stuff. Scary stuff, too. Come July 20th, it will be 37 years since man first walked on the moon. I look at what they had and what they accomplished, and I look at what we have, and what we're not doing and I just shake my head. We're too wrapped up in politics to accomplish anything at the moment. Sliderulers vs microprossesors? We need a true leader again.

6)Which makes me think of the global warming stuff. I've still not seen An Inconvenient truth, but I understand one of the things they reccommend is changing your lightbulbs to the power efficient fluorescents. They do cost more but they last a LOT longer. During the California power shortage that started a few weeks after Bush was elected in 2000 and was orchastrated by and benefited the big power company middle men of Texas (until the scam ran out of gas and oh look! Enron folded just after the obscene pilliaging of California stopped! I wonder if there was any correlation? Could that be why the Feds refused to stop the extortion/thievery?) But I digress...anyway, we bought the bulbs back then and only now are some of them needing to be changed. It's a godsend for the ones that I needed to climb up on a ladder to change about every 5 months. ANYWAY, I was in Costco today and they had packs of 6 or 8 for under $10/pk. Bottomline is that they aren't that expensive anymore so go buy 'em! They're a little dim when you first turn them on but after about 30 secs they're up to speed.

7)Cats. Brindle still isn't feeling well so I get to take him back to the vets tomorrow. I'll see first hand how crabby the tabby can be. Reg is good though I think his teeth need attention. I also witnessed him having obstructive sleep apnea the other night! No little CPAP mask for him, though. Scooter seems quite frail but is comfortable; he still lets me play with his toes. *g*

8)Cutiepie was by last night with one baby. It could be I just didn't see the other or it was too skittish. The skunks are amusing, especially the Polite Skunk. Apparently the Polite skunk got through the hole in the screen door and was in the house. When discovered, it just waited to be let out again, but Scooter was offended and tried to bop him in the head. The skunk was concerned and gave a little stomp, enough to encourage Scooter to step back far enough that the skunk could walk out. If that's had been any other skunk, I'm thinking the house would still be smelling, but the Polite skunk is very 'tame.' I bet I could feed him by hand but I don't want him thinking people are that kind as they aren't.

9) Still reading the zines I bought at MWC.

10) Seems like there should be ten so I'll add that nothing caught fire during the 4th despite the yahoo who was setting off sky rockets about 200 feet from here and the very flamable hillside behind us. That is why I never go see fireworks on the 4th.

They released some more detailed synopsis for the first Sg-1 and SGA episodes and it made me even more hpyer. Can't wait!

I think Rodney is going to be brave but scared at the same time. And his boyfriend Sheppard will rescue him and Ronon. *g*

I'm at the point where both shows give me fun and nice characters and I know what to expect. It's a matter of being ready for the ride or not. And well, both clifthangers were pretty interesting.

When we did reforms at home we banned all the conventional lightbubs. Now we only use power efficient ones and yes, they are more expensive, but they last ages and the light is whiter, which I like. They don't warm up as much as the regular ones, which is good for the lamps too.

I'm not a big environmental buff, because it's easy to have a big mouth and become a hypocrite saying you do lots of stuff when you don't, but stuff like the lightbulbs, being careful with water (not sure if that's an issue where you are, but it really is a big issue here), and recycling garbage is not that hard and it makes a difference.

Where were the spoilers at? Gateworld? Are they about the eps that they're casting for, or something with a closer airdate?

So, you're not a Ronan/Rodney convert? I thought you *really* liked that big hunk. *g* Rodney does scared but brave very, very well. I like that quality about him. It makes him so very human. But I still want him to squeal. *g*

Very good point about less heat. That makes a big difference.

We have three different bins for refuse. Black for trash, grey for all recyclables and green for all the plant material. Water conservation is taught (though it's up to individual to comply.) We're planting native plants and other drought tolerant plants so as not to irrigate the landscape. The toilet we just bought has a 6 liter flush, which is a national requirement.

So, actually, when I list all that out, we are doing quite a bit to help out.

Gateworld, yes. Got them via the feed and [livejournal.com profile] sga_noticeboard

I do like Ronon a lot, but I like him with Teyla, even with Elizabeth. And alone, he's like a big puppy that could squish you. :P

There has been a lot of Ronon/Rodney, and I read some of them, they're nice but I like Rodney better paired with Sheppard, or with Carson. I love Carson/Rodney, but the fics are too sappy for my taste...

Call me weird, but I find him very attractive when he's all scared but does the right thing anyway. I like to compare that to the SGC years, when the responsibility was not his yet and he hadn't find the inner courage.

No problems with the squealing, I find that attractive too.. heh.

We do most of the same things. We sepparate plastic, paper and trash, because we can throw them in different places, which is also good. As we don't have gardens, the plants are not a problem...

It's quite a lot, and if everybody does it, the difference is even bigger. :)

Have you found a preferred fluorescent that gives you about the same light value as incandescents? I keep trying different ones- the so-called 'daylight' bulbs were horrible (I'm using them in closets!). But I'd use more if I could find one that gave a color light that I like.

No, I haven't. We changed most of the bulbs all at once and after a month or so, we grew used to the new tint. Now when I put on an incandescent, it seems too harsh to me. I've never tried the 'daylight' bulbs. I hadn't considered that that would be a deterent. I would think the manufacturers would try harder to solve that.

LOL - I love "polite skunk"!

Even though I live in a crummy apt in the middle of the city, I share your concern about fireworks on the 4th and New Years, and I never go anywhere either. I want to stay home in case something catches fire. Of course, I'm more paranoid than the average person, having already lost my domicile and possessions to fire in the past.

Hope your Fur People all get a clean bill of health.

We're very fond of the Polite Skunk. He's very calm, very patient, very willing to take direction. What's not to love?

Yeah, I can see being determined not to lose one's domicile again. I don't think I could relax if I went away on that night.

Brindle had some tests run so maybe it'll help isolate what is bugging him. He's such a sad little kitty when he lays there all pathetic. :(

The SG-1 and Atlantis premiers are the 14th according to the guide data. Looking forward to them.

I hope you have both parts (all 4 hours) of Space Race. I still have them on my TiVo - I watched them right away but I've been meaning to burn DVDs to save them. I know most of the stuff they showed - I'm a space geek - but it was very well done.

I enjoyed the cliffhangers for both shows so it'll be fun to see how they get them out of their fixes.

I did see all four hours of Space Race. I thought it'd be one hour episodes but Faithful Tivo knew better. I love my Tivo. Anyway, I know most of the US stuff, but I had no idea about most of the disasters on the Soviet side. So many close calls! I thought the dramatizations made for a more engaging story, but I wondered how accurate they were on the quotes. Good show. I probably should have burned them to a disk, too. I image they'll be for sale at some point. I've heard disks that we burn ourselves have a much shorter lifespan than the professionally printed ones.

And I've already subbed to tivolovers. It's very informative; thanks for collating all that data.

>>>I understand one of the things they reccommend is changing your lightbulbs to the power efficient fluorescents

I have a question about those lightbulbs - I don't deal well being in stores with fluorescent lighting; they give me weird headaches. (As a consequence, I'm not much of one for shopping.) Do the ones for home use have the same sort of "flicker" as store lights?
