Alaska trip photos.

I was hoping to have an account of the trip written up to post at the same time, but that's not going to happen for a week or so. I needed the photos up for tomorrow, so these got down first.

Go to the photobucket site and click on the Alaska albums. I have to admit to technical problems: I didn't thoroughly get to know my new camera before I left. Unfortuately, most of the photos are only 100k in size instead of over a meg each. Very disappointing but at least in this format, you can't tell there's a problem. Bad Tenaya, no biscuit. The other Canon had the choice of photo size in the menu and I didn't see that in this camera. I *assumed* that maybe one couldn't reduce the size. Ha! Oh well, next time....

I'm really impressed, and Alaska is now in the list of places to visit. Whoa. Looks similar to BC but wilder, doesn't it? I'm so envious you have that kind of nature in America. It's gorgeous.

You and your mum look great in the pictures, I don't know if she remembers me, but tell her I said hi. :)

BTW, I also took a look at the Grand Canyon ones. I recognise some of the places *g*, and I really really need to finish that holidays report!!!

Oh yeah. There was a chain link fence between me and the bear. See that fencing in the moose and sitka deer photos? That's what they had around the bear area! The bear was maybe 10 feet away in that one photo...they were totally disinterested in the humans watching them, which is a good thing.

Alaska was vast and wild and pretty much empty of people. It's a completely different perspective than usual. I feel very fortunate to have such amazing places to visit without traveling to distant lands.

I will tell Mom hi for you. Sometimes I read her your journal entries and I say, "remember Paris and the Barcelonians?" She always smiles and wants to know what you're up to. *g*

You know, when I got back, I looked up your lj to see your photos and read about how your trip went and I was disappointed. I'll finish my trip report if you finish yours! *g*

Ah! You would SO enjoy it! Those ships are all style and they have dances and formal dinners and you would have a ball. There are cheaper ways of doing a cruise, like you can get a cheaper stateroom or not take a land tour. They're pretty reasonable, really.

Your photos are gorgeous! I can only imagine how long it took to download that many pictures. Think how long it would have taken if they were the original size - ack!

Fantastic wildlife pix, esp the bears and the puffin, and the seal photos are great. Hey, your jelly pix were fine! You must have been told that you and your mom positively look like twins. So amazing, how the glaciers are blue.
Wow, I'm impressed with your stateroom, too, it's a lot roomier than I would have thought.

I'm glad you liked the photos. :) Correcting the photos and uploading them took hours and hours. And those are just the better photos from the batch!

That sea lion was amazing. I took some film of him swimming about; I'll have to see if I can upload that. Animal photography! I waste a lot of photos to get one or two good shots. At least with digital that's not too expensive.

In Alaska part two, I added a photo of the veranda part of the room. It's the first photo in that folder. It's small, but it was adequate. The room was very comfortable and while compact, I didn't feel claustraphobic at all.

The blue of the glaciers has something to do with the compression of the ice. Once it's exposed to the light for a while, the blue disappears.

I will be at the next meeting!! Oh, I'm not a good door monitor either. I heard some strange noises, got up and discovered two skunks in the house! One was right in front of the door so I pushed him back out. The other was eating cat food and two brooms herded him right out. They must not have been Jerry because Jerry kept dodging further into the house when I tried to get him out and these two were, "alright already! Where's the door!"

I've been having a lot of fun doing video clips. I should go out and take pix today for my photo class, but the class itself is so lame... Well, I usually carry my camera in my purse on the weekends, so maybe....

Your stateroom looked a lot roomier than I usually think is the size of cabins on ships, which are apparently often the size of closets.

LOL, I told the bash about "Jerry" and they were amused. Face it, you're a foster mother!

I was looking at this post again, because a friend of mine is thinking of doing this cruise, and I realized I never commented. *g* Your pictures were *lovely* and it looked like so much fun. I don't think I'd actually enjoy a cruise, but I'd go back to Alaska in a heartbeat. :-)

I didn't think I'd like a cruise as I like more challenge to my vacations and people always go on about how you can do nothing but just lay about. Well, one can certainly do that, but the fact that most days are spent at port exploring, it was actually fairly exhausting. The only thing I'd caution against is of course the cost. One does get a lot of value for the money, but still, it's a lot of money for those of us that aren't that well off. I don't regret it though. The excursions are overpriced, but there aren't a lot of choices. Someone I worked with did this trip last year and prudently didn't go on the excusions...and now regrets it very much. If one is going to go that far, might as *experience* it.

I think I wouldn't like a cruise because I really don't care for big ships. In Alaska, to get our car to the island, we had to take a 12-hour ferry. We did that a few times out of necessity, but it's not something I enjoyed at all. I know a cruise ship would be a lot nicer than a ferry, but I just don't like the feeling of it.

I think the cruises are lovely--especially the Alaska ones, because it's a neat way to travel (and in some cases, the best way to travel unless you're in a big hurry), and you do get to stop and see all kinds of neat stuff.

Someone I worked with did this trip last year and prudently didn't go on the excusions...and now regrets it very much. If one is going to go that far, might as *experience* it.

Oh yeah, definitely. I can't even imagine doing that and not going ashore to see all the cool stuff or even just to go to a coffee shop and hang out with people or whatever. *g*
