The Fair's the thing
Sep. 21st, 2007 04:01 amToday I sent my passport renewal in. Yay! The postmaster said he just got a letter saying the turn around time is back to being 6-8 weeks. Yay!!
Then, we went to the fair. It was a absolutely gorgeous day, too. About 70 degrees, a bit breezy with scattered clouds. The food smells were wonderful with all that grilled food. Speaking of which, I was going to have a hot dog on a stick but they were taking too long. I did have an 'Angus hot dog' which was pretty good, a cinnamon roll, (lots of cinnamon, lots of butter) clam chowder (big hunks of clams) and two small carne asada tacos (very, very tasty.) Everything was very yummie. :) There is just something about going to the fair and grazing away on whatever catches your attention. Hedonism rears it's hungry head. *g*
And we bought stuff. Mom couldn't get enough of the Touch of Mink people, so we have soap and lotion and sunscreen (which I actually did need.) I also bought some liniment for aches and pains. Yeah, I know. SNAKE OIL!!!! But it smelt really nice with all sorts of mints and tea tree oil and stuff like that, and it was both hot and icy at the same time and it did make my foot feel good (yes, the lady tore off my shoe and sock and had her way with my foot. I cried out, "No! No! Leave my foot alone!" but she persisted and she had a South Carolina accent and eventually had her wicked way with me.) And I've read too many westerns and have always wondered about the liniment that they are always rubbing into themselves.... So, you can see the hedonism extended past the vittles. *g*
I bought stocking stuffers from Bunny and sheepsclothing. Mom bought me a Laurel Birch bag/purse thing with horses on it for my belated birthday (tore it out of my hand and said, "LET ME GET YOU THAT FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY!" In retaliation, I bought her a garden gnome for her belated birthday. He's sitting on a bench reading a zine, er, book.
The tote bag looks like this:

I also got glow in the dark decals from my laptop's keyboard. *g*
Mom got an amber ring. Big surprise there.
And I got a "Hilary for President" placard to stick in the yard again--mainly to annoy whomever it was that tore up the Kerry from President placard back in 2004.
And then we watched Chinese Acrobats and cheered wildly.
Oh, and I need to look up some solar power thing where you lease the solar power panels on your roof and pay a set price for your power for the next 25 years. Apparently all it costs is $500 deposit. Sounds too good to be true....
It was a great day; beautiful, goofy and just plain fun.

Date: 2007-09-22 12:18 am (UTC)I have two Laurel Burch bags, both kitties - one I bought myself and one I got last Xmas. Coincidentally, I read Laurel Burch's obituary in the Times today - she was only 61, and died of a rare hereditary/genetic illness to do with the bones. How sad!

Date: 2007-09-22 11:11 am (UTC)Fried avocado? I didn't see that. I wonder...no, nevermind.
I wanted the corn on the cob and those tri-tip BBQs smelled heavenly. I think I need to go back. *g*

Date: 2007-09-22 02:39 pm (UTC)That ended up being what I thought, too. Plus they served it with Ranch dressing, which I'm not fond of. Salsa would have been better than Ranch. I'm so not into the fried twinkies and snickers.
